Frequently Asked Questions
What are electricity distribution rates?
Distribution rates are the charges incurred for the cost of delivering electricity from the grid to homes, businesses and municipalities. They are separate from the actual cost of power and are set by regulated utilities.
How much more are people paying?
On average, households can pay $118 a month in distribution costs compared to just $34 in non-impacted service areas. Industrial customers and municipalities also face much higher costs - sometimes nearly three times more than in other parts of Alberta.
What solutions are being proposed?
Other provinces, including British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, have legislative or regulatory tools to equalize rates.
